Varied carpet beetles do have brown on their backs but they look more spotted or striped with white and light colored patches mixed with brown. Bed bugs and carpet beetles are both very small. A carpet beetle is very different from a bed bug in appearance. They are scaly and the bite they can leave will look similar to a bed bug.

They are usually smaller and are about an 1 8 of an inch in length fully grown. The main difference is the color. Bed bugs are bigger and have flat bodies than bed bugs. A major difference between bed bugs and carpet beetles is their diet.
